Well cared-for dentures are more comfortable, last longer and help protect the gums underneath.

Every day

  1. Take dentures out and rinse them after meals.
  2. Brush them once a day with a soft brush and plain soap or denture cleaner. Ordinary toothpaste can scratch them.
  3. Clean over a bowl of water or a folded towel, so they don’t break if dropped.
  4. Clean the mouth too. Gently brush the gums, tongue and any natural teeth.

At night

  • Take dentures out overnight to rest the gums, unless Dr. Rifat has advised otherwise.
  • Keep them in water or a soaking solution so they don’t dry out and change shape.

Signs they need checking

Ask us to check the dentures if they:

  • rub, cause sore spots or ulcers
  • feel loose or click when speaking
  • are cracked, chipped or missing a tooth
  • make eating harder than before

Mouths change over time, so even good dentures need adjusting or replacing every few years. Please don’t try to repair or adjust dentures at home.
